We are thrilled to announce that PV Music House is launching its first-ever Marching Band program for intermediate school students in grades 6–8, beginning Fall 2026. As an approved PVPUSD Independent Study PE (ISPE) provider, our program allows students to combine their love of music with movement, teamwork, and the energy of live performance — all while earning school PE credit in place of traditional PE class.
About the Program
The PV Music House Marching Band is designed for students who play wind instruments — including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and more. No prior marching experience is necessary. Our program provides structured ensemble instruction in marching fundamentals, music performance, and stage presence in a fun, supportive environment.
Program Requirements
Participation in the PV Music House Marching Band requires a commitment to three connected components each week:
Weekly Ensemble Class — Every Thursday from 3:45 – 5:00 PM at PV Music House. This is the core group rehearsal where students learn marching fundamentals, ensemble performance, and repertoire together.
Weekly Private Lessons — Students must take weekly private lessons with a PV Music House instructor. Lessons are scheduled individually and rates start at approximately $45 per 30-minute session (rates vary by instructor and lesson length). Private lessons build the individual musicianship and technique that supports the ensemble
ISPE Activity Hours — To satisfy the district's Independent Study PE requirement, students must log a minimum of 10 hours per week of structured program activity, Monday–Friday, and maintain a monthly Time Activity Log throughout the year.
Earn PE CreditFulfill your PE requirement through PVPUSD's Independent Study PE (ISPE) program.
Marching FundamentalsLearn the skills and discipline of a real marching ensemble from the ground up.
Live PerformancesPerform at community events, parades, and special showcases throughout the season.
High School ReadyBuild the skills, habits, and experience to thrive in high school marching band.

One of the most exciting aspects of this program is that participating students can fulfill their school PE requirement through the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District's Independent Study PE (ISPE) program. ISPE allows eligible intermediate and high school students to meet their PE requirement through a structured out-of-school activity supervised by a qualified instructor.
Please note that ISPE at the intermediate school level is a full-year commitment — it replaces your student's regular PE class for the entire school year, not just one semester.
To participate in ISPE, families must apply through the district's online portal. The application has two parts: one completed by a parent or guardian, and one completed by the coach or program director. Both parts must be submitted before the deadline.
