SU25 Intro to Violin I (Wednesdays 5pm - 6 pm)

Welcome to our "Intro to Violin" course (ages 7-11) which is designed for students to learn the fundamental techniques and knowledge essential for 4th and 5th-grade music classes. These skills will begin to prepare them for future opportunities, such as entry into advanced middle school and high school orchestras.
Throughout this course, students will:
* Master proper posture for holding the violin and bow, ensuring a strong foundation for playing.
* Learn how to tune and maintain their instruments, fostering a sense of responsibility and care.
* Develop proficiency in playing all notes in first position across all four strings, with a focus on achieving stable intonation.
* Explore a variety of bowing techniques, including staccato, slurs, ties, and hooked bowing, to add depth and expression to their playing.
* Gain an understanding of ensemble playing basics, laying the groundwork for collaborative musical experiences.
* Progress through Essential Elements Book I, covering essential exercises and familiar tunes.
* Prepare to embark on the journey of Suzuki Book I or its equivalent, further expanding their musical repertoire and skills.

Instructor Bio: | Violinist Mimi Jung brings boundless creativity and determination to all of her artistic pursuits, from performing in many of the world's most prestigious violin competitions to sharing her craft with her teaching studio. Recognition of her skill and her love for performing as a soloist has brought her to such renowned venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Athenaeum Main Concert Hall in Bucharest, Romania. From 2018-2021, she served as tenured associate concertmaster of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (Belgium).
